There is one tips for reader this blog if you want to know the most delicious coffee in the town, traditional market could be the best starting point because normally every traditional market has specific culinary icon including Angso Duo market, I belief it’s must be has legendary coffee shop, but before straight to the point let me info the reader or visitor my blog, when I was in Jambi I Stayed on ASTON Hotel Jambi and the hotel located at Simpang Pulai Area.
Picture 2. Hotel where I staying at in Jambi
The target point was set up, Angso Duo Traditional Market, base on google map the distance between my hotel to Pasar Angso Duo around +/- 2 km. as usual the starting point is always my hotel but the time could be in the morning after Sholat Subuh (morning prayer) or afternoon after my offices hours is over. the route quite interesting because I found some landmark’s or icon’s Jambi city..
Aston – Makalam Bridge- Pasar Angso Duo – Aston
Total distance for this route +/- 7.7 km and along the way I found some interesting landmark or icon of Jambi City. time is 5:30 AM sharply in the morning after performed sholat subuh at the Mosque near by hotel, Wearing my sneaker start to walking alone, for your information I always enjoy walking alone to reach my target because I’m free set my own rhythm, I can stop whatever I want, and start again whatever i want, but if there is some one willing to joint me it’s would be okey..
Picture 2. ASTON Jambi my starting point (picture taken from another hotel)
I’m walking directly to Angso Duo at Dawn and the road still free from car, motor bike or others vehicles and the Air very fresh, Alhamdulillah Ya Allah atas nikmat udara segar ini. I walk to north direction from my hotel, goes to Mesjid Seribu Tiang (Thousand Pillar Mosque) this is one of Famous Mosque in Jambi or maybe this the only one unique mosque in Indonesia that supported by almost thousand pillar (maybe not thousand exactly).
Picture 2. Thousand Pillars Mosque Jambi at Down and Afternoon
Passing by in front of thousand pillar mosque and goes to left bring me to the legendary and the famous market in Jambi city, Angso Duo market (Pasar Angso Duo) the atmosphere pushback my memories to Pasar Bawah in Pekanbaru city (my hometown) or Pasar Bering Harjo in Jogjakarta or Pasar Raya in Padang, as we known all major city has historical market you named and googling you will find it’s. Angso Duo is morning market or the business activities open from Dawn at 4:00 AM till Noon at 14:00 out of that time you find nothing except garbages, closed pendant, empty table you named all equipment’s that normally found in the market. on this market you will find all fresh from the Nature things such us Vegetable, Fish, Meat, poultry product and many more.
But for me the most interested thing to do in the traditional market are the traditional foods and mass culinary or jajan pasar, My memories goes back to the time when i was a kid and every time my mom goes back from market she always bring me or other family member special food that only available on Hari Pasar or Market Day. did you remember the days of market day which is common in Indonesia such us:
-
Pasar Minggu / Sunday Market
-
Pasar Senin / Monday Market
-
Pasar Rabu / Wednesday Market
-
Pasar Jumat / Friday Market
-
etc..
Those market day or occasional market still exist until now, maybe at present day or for people who live in the city, those market day not a special day, but for those people whose live in the village or remote area such us village on the river bank, village on the mountain, Market day is a special day, where the people holiday from their daily chores such us Farmer, Fishermen because that day they will go to Market to selling their harvest from their field. In fact for the women they received their expense money (uang belanja) for next week at market day and they will go to the marked to buy their need for this week such us vegetables, fish, meat, poultry product and others, at the market day they will find special dishes/foods that sell only at market day, such us satay, Ice cream, special cake, even tough toys or other necessary stuff.

I think there is no thing to lose to try, the No name coffee shop and the seller look like an old Chinese man, feel free I’m walking to the coffee shop and luckily for me there is an empty table and chair for me.. after seated and looking around I’m shouting “ Kopi O satu” Kopi O is a popular name for black coffee in Batam and Amenk (Owner’s Name, i heard everybody call him by the name) answered spontaneously ya … ya silahkan duduk ya (have a seat ).. less than 5 minutes a cup of Kopi O served in front of me.. smelt is good and the thickness is enough… wow, I think I’m on the right place, delicious coffee only Rp 4,000…. very .. very cheap but the taste is very good.. and the journey this morning continue..

The Old Town
I’m walking at the old city of Jambi, the atmosphere bit spooky because I can’t find any store open and nobody walking around, yeah the surrounding still dark and the street light not illuminated all section well ant certain side very dark. but there is an advantage for me I’m free to take pictures for any building i want. there is one building very interested for me, a building look like a Theatre or Cinema i spotted the picture or more specific advertisement printed on big screen shown an old Indian movie.
